Family-Friendly Hiking Trails

Hiking is fun, even for the little ones. A roughly two-kilometer circular trail, which is even stroller-friendly, is "The Legendary World of Toni." This family hiking trail can truly be enjoyed by every family member. The adventure trail is ideal for little explorers who want to reach great heights. The fantastic panoramic viewpoint offers not only great views but also evokes a sense of freedom and elation, which is a great reward for the hike.

Various Routes to the Hiking Trail

Even the ride with the Rittner Cable Car from Bolzano is an adventure in itself. It takes you to Oberbozen, from where you can travel by narrow-gauge railway and then by bus. The mountain railway "Rittner Horn" finally brings you to your destination. With the Ritten Card, public transport is even free. All our guests automatically receive this card during their stay at SchartnerAlm.

Use this card to access various public transport services for free. It also provides numerous discounts related to art, culture, and history in the region. Of course, you can also plan to arrive by car and enjoy the hiking trail.

The South Tyrolean Sky Tour

A moderately difficult high-altitude hike is the South Tyrolean Sky Tour. After taking the "Rittner Horn" mountain railway, you can start right away. The paths are lined with mountain pines and Swiss stone pines, which are also a theme in our alpine lodges. The view of countless different mountains over 3,000 meters high and the Dolomites is breathtaking.

You will be on this hiking trail for about five hours. Make sure to factor in breaks and refreshments. Stations like the mountain pine oil distillery, Rittnerhorn, and the magnificent alpine meadows are all worth enjoying.

Climbing in the South Tyrolean Mountains

The mountains in South Tyrol are among the most popular climbing regions in the world. In Ritten, there are two different climbing gardens. The porphyry climbing area offers three different types of climbing: crack climbing, slab climbing, and edge climbing.

It should be noted that these routes are not suitable for beginners or children. The best climbing experiences here are in spring and autumn.

For those wanting to introduce their children to climbing, there are options too. The tourist program of the Ritten Tourist Association includes a children's program that introduces little adventurers to climbing. Initial experiences can be gained on the climbing rock in Lichtenstern.

Another porphyry climbing garden, which boasts around 50 different climbing routes, is also in the region. Due to its southern exposure, the rock warms up, making winter the best season for this climbing area, established in 2010. Holes, which are uncommon for this type of rock, complement the edges and cracks that serve as handholds.

At the reception of SchartnerAlm, in the tourism office, or on our digital guest map, you will find plenty of information about guided hikes, guided bike tours, and climbing. Most of these tours lead to Rittner Horn, where you can enjoy a breathtaking 360° panoramic view.
